July 2025, The first agrivoltaic (AgriPV) system in Cyprus

The first of its kind agrophotovoltaic farm in Cyprus by MOUNTAIN BERRIES PITSILIA (MBP) as part of the FarmPV codevelop project led by IQ3SOLAR LIMITED. The PV panels are semi transparent and underneath them are raspberries.

This is a huge milestone for the project and for Cyprus. Farmers can add to existing farms the ability to generate energy, control the growth environment (shading, pest control, rain and hail protection etc.). This milestone would not have been possible without the tireless work of Nicolas Valanides of MBP and Dr. Yiannis Tofis - Founder and CEO of Eletoyia Photovoltaics and the expert engieering team of Eletoyia Photovoltaics. Many thanks also go to Prof. George Manganaris, Dr Egli C. Georgiadou of Cyprus University of Technology, Prof. Davide Neri, Prof Enrico Maria Lodolini and Samuele Crescenzi of Università Politecnica delle Marche who provided guidance and expert advice throughout the process.

We will organize an open day to see this live.

AgriPV in Italy

On May 6, 2025 as part of the project, our coordinator Charalambos Anastassiou and co-foundr of IQ3SOLAR LIMITED met with Akren Agrisolar research center in Casacastalda (Umbria). There we saw a living lab (1MW of agriPV with different technologies for mounting, trackers and PV being tested for different crops and fruits.

December 2024, Joint peer review article submitted for publication

Thrilled to share our new journal article, entitled "Current trends and challenges of agrivoltaic systems towards sustainable production of temperate fruit crops under intensive orchard setups."

This work explores the complex interplay between orchard protection and solar energy generation, highlighting the benefits and limitations of integrating agrivoltaic and netting systems. We discuss the latest trends, key challenges, and emphasize the need for further research and policy development to unlock the full potential of these systems in sustainable agriculture.
